Commissioned by Tabula Rasa magazine, Agnieszka Vosloo’s United States of Fixations explores the concept of fixation beyond the realm of an object of desire. Dissecting its foundation, its experience, and its aftermath.
Presented on three screens, the video installation captures the full spectrum of fixations in a series of vignettes from A to Z – a visceral immersive experience for the viewer as diverse and yet uniquely personal as the fixations themselves.
A housewife vacuums the floor of a power station. Bodybuilders in water wings float serenely across a swimming pool. A naked girl on an escalator. A man’s obsession with ladybugs. From mundane every day objects to bizarre behaviors. Some unsettling. Some beguiling. Others surreal. All without judgment.
